Töötlusomadused are the characteristics of a material, product, or substance that determine how it behaves during and after processing operations. The term, common in Estonian industry and research, encompasses physical, chemical, mechanical, and thermal attributes that influence manufacturability, performance, and final quality.

In the manufacturing sector, key processing properties include viscosity, melting point, crystallinity, surface tension, and reactivity. These parameters guide the selection of processing methods such as extrusion, injection molding, forging, or chemical finishing. For example, the viscosity of a polymer melt dictates the extrusion temperature profile, while the crystallinity of a metal alloy dictates its suitable forging temperature to achieve desired toughness.

Processing properties also cover mechanical attributes relevant to later use, such as yield strength, ductility, and hardness, which must be considered during machining, heat treatment, or coating procedures. Thermal properties, such as thermal conductivity and specific heat, influence heat transfer during processes like welding or additive manufacturing.
