Töyssy

Töyssy is a former municipality located in the Western Finland region. It was merged into the larger municipality of Kurikka on January 1, 2013. Prior to the merger, Töyssy was situated in the province of Western Finland and was part of the South Ostrobothnia sub-region. The administrative center of the municipality was the village of Töysän kirkonkylä.

The area that constituted Töyssy has a history stretching back to the 16th century. The municipality itself was established as a separate parish in 1798. Economically, Töyssy was largely based on agriculture and forestry, typical of the surrounding South Ostrobothnian region. It was known for its rural character and close-knit community.

During its time as an independent municipality, Töyssy focused on providing local services to its residents. The merger with Kurikka was part of a larger reform aimed at streamlining public administration and ensuring the viability of municipalities in Finland. Following the merger, the former Töyssy area is now governed by the Kurikka municipal council. The geographical landscape of Töyssy is characterized by forests, fields, and lakes, contributing to its natural beauty.
