Töysän

Töysän is a former municipality of Finland. It was located in the province of Western Finland and was part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality had a population of approximately 3,000 people at the time of its dissolution. Töysän was known for its rural landscape, characterized by forests and lakes. The main economic activities in the area included agriculture and small-scale industry.

In 2017, Töysän was merged with Alavus to form the new municipality of Alavus. This merger was part of a larger administrative reform aimed at streamlining public services and improving the economic viability of municipalities in Finland. Following the merger, the former municipal center of Töysän continues to serve as a significant part of the larger Alavus municipality, retaining its local identity and community functions. The history of Töysän dates back centuries, with evidence of settlement in the area from the Middle Ages. Its administrative history includes periods as a chapel parish before becoming an independent municipality. The natural environment of Töysän offered opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as hiking and fishing.
