Täyttökaasujen

Täyttökaasut, or filler gases, are substances used to occupy space within a container or product. Their primary purpose is to prevent damage, maintain shape, or improve the presentation of the item. Common applications include packaging, where they are used to cushion fragile goods during transport and storage.

In the food industry, certain gases are employed as modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) to extend shelf life. These gases, such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and oxygen, can slow down spoilage processes by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms and enzymatic activity. The specific gas or gas mixture is chosen based on the type of food product.

Beyond packaging, täyttökaasut can be used in balloons, tire inflation, and even in certain industrial processes where an inert atmosphere is required. The selection of a täyttökaasu depends heavily on its chemical properties, such as inertness, density, and its interaction with the product or environment it is used in. For instance, inert gases like nitrogen and argon are often preferred when preventing unwanted chemical reactions is critical. In contrast, some gases might be chosen for their ability to displace air or their cost-effectiveness. The gases are typically supplied in pressurized cylinders or bulk tanks for industrial use.
