Tändningslås

Tändningslås, often referred to as an ignition switch in English, is a critical component in most vehicles and other machinery powered by an internal combustion engine. Its primary function is to control the flow of electrical power to various systems, most importantly the starter motor and the ignition system. When a key is inserted and turned, the tändningslås completes electrical circuits, allowing the engine to start and then run.

Typically, a tändningslås has multiple positions. The "Off" or "0" position ensures all electrical systems are deactivated, preventing the engine from running and conserving battery power. Turning the key to the "Accessory" or "I" position usually powers non-essential accessories like the radio or power windows without turning on the engine. The "On" or "II" position powers the main electrical systems, including the fuel pump and dashboard instruments, preparing the vehicle for ignition. Finally, the "Start" or "III" position engages the starter motor, cranking the engine. Once the engine starts, the key can be released back to the "On" position.

Modern tändningslås may incorporate electronic components and security features, such as immobilizers that require a specific key code to prevent theft. In some vehicles, the traditional key-operated tändningslås is being replaced by keyless entry and start systems, which use a button to initiate the starting sequence when a recognized key fob is present. Regardless of the specific design, the fundamental role of the tändningslås remains to manage the electrical power required to start and operate an engine.
