Tähtipaarid
Tähtipaarid, known in English as binary stars, are systems of two stars that are gravitationally bound and orbit around their common center of mass. This gravitational dance means that neither star is truly stationary; they are in constant motion relative to each other. Binary star systems are incredibly common in the universe, and it is estimated that at least half of all stars in our Milky Way galaxy are part of such a system. Understanding these pairs is crucial for astronomers as they provide valuable insights into stellar evolution, mass, and other fundamental properties that are difficult to determine for single stars.
The observation of binary stars can be done through various methods depending on their separation and orientation.
