It marks the direct object of a transitive verb, indicating the entity that is directly affected by the action of the verb. For example, in the sentence "I read the book," "the book" is the direct object and would be in the accusative case.

In Hungarian, the accusative case is typically formed by adding the suffix "-t" or "-et" to the noun. For instance, "könyv" (book) becomes "könyvet" in the accusative. German uses articles to indicate the accusative case, with "der" (masculine definite article) changing to "den" and "ein" (masculine indefinite article) changing to "einen." Other genders and cases have different accusative forms or remain the same as the nominative.

The accusative case is crucial for understanding sentence structure and the relationships between words. It helps distinguish the subject from the object, ensuring clarity in meaning.
