Támogatott

Támogatott is a Hungarian term formed from the verb támogatatni (to support, to subsidize) and is used to describe something or someone that has received support or aid. In its basic, non-technical sense, it means “supported” or “assisted.” In Hungarian grammar it functions as the past participle of támogató and can be used as an adjective, for example, a támogatott személy meaning “the person who has received support.”

In policy and administrative language, however, támogatott is commonly used as a noun to designate the recipient or beneficiary of subsidies, benefits, or services. The phrase a támogatottak köre (“the circle of beneficiaries”) appears in official documents to identify those who qualify for aid under a program. The exact definition of who is a támogatott varies by program and legal context, and eligibility criteria are specified in program guidelines or legislation. In practice, forms may refer to a támogatott személy or simply a támogatott to indicate someone who receives assistance.

The term contrasts with támogató, which refers to the sponsor, donor, or provider of support. Beyond social welfare, támogatott can appear in contexts such as education or research funding, where a grant, scholarship, or project is described as támogatatott or as a támogatott program, indicating that it has received financial backing. In everyday language, the word retains the core sense of having received support.
