Työtuloon

Työtuloon is the illative singular form of the Finnish noun työtulo, a term used to describe income derived from work. In everyday Finnish, työtulo refers to earnings received as compensation for employment or active professional activity, and the illative form työtuloon appears in sentences that indicate movement toward or into earned income, particularly in legal or formal texts.

Työtulo denotes earned income, such as wages, salaries, bonuses, overtime pay, commissions, and other compensation tied to work performed. It contrasts with passive or capital incomes, including dividends, interest, rents, and profits from investments where no active labor is required. In many contexts, työtulo forms the basis for taxation and social security calculations.

In Finland, earned income is taxed progressively and is a primary source of state and municipal tax revenue. Työtulo is also subject to social security contributions, such as pension and unemployment insurance, and it interacts with various tax credits and deductions. One notable example is the työtulovähennys, an earned-income deduction designed to reduce tax liability on työtulo, with the amount adjusted annually based on total earned income and other factors.

Legal and policy texts frequently use työtulo to specify rules and benefits linked to work earnings, including wage reporting, tax withholdings, and eligibility criteria for social benefits. The illative työtuloon functions chiefly as a grammatical form within Finnish syntax and is not used independently as a separate concept outside language inflection.
