Typonoksidipäästöt, often referred to as NOx emissions in English, represent a group of gases composed of nitrogen and oxygen. The most common forms are nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). These emissions are a significant environmental concern due to their role in air pollution and their impact on human health and ecosystems.

The primary source of typonoksidipäästöt is the combustion of fossil fuels at high temperatures. This occurs in various applications, including internal combustion engines in vehicles, power plants, industrial furnaces, and boilers. Natural sources, such as lightning and volcanic activity, also contribute to NOx levels, though human-generated emissions are generally more substantial.
