Työttömyysturvajärjestelmän

The työttömyysturvajärjestelmä, or unemployment benefit system in Finland, provides financial support to individuals who have lost their jobs. It aims to ensure a basic standard of living during periods of unemployment and to facilitate the transition back into the workforce. The system is primarily funded through contributions from employers and employees, as well as government funding.

Eligibility for unemployment benefits is typically dependent on having worked a sufficient amount of time and being registered as unemployed with an employment office. There are generally two main types of unemployment benefits: earnings-related daily allowance and basic unemployment allowance. The earnings-related allowance is calculated based on an individual's previous income and is administered by unemployment funds. The basic unemployment allowance is a more modest, flat-rate payment, often intended for those who do not qualify for the earnings-related benefit or whose entitlement has expired.

The system also includes provisions for job seekers to actively search for employment, participate in training or activation programs, and receive career counseling. These measures are designed to encourage and support the return to work as quickly as possible. The duration and amount of benefits can vary depending on individual circumstances, the type of benefit received, and changes in employment status. The administration of the unemployment benefit system is overseen by Kela (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland) and various unemployment funds.
