Turbinsmåler

Turbinsmåler is a Swedish term that translates to "turbine meter" or "turbine flow meter" in English. It refers to a type of flow meter used to measure the volumetric flow rate of a fluid, whether liquid or gas, by using a rotor that spins when the fluid passes through it. The speed of the rotor's rotation is proportional to the flow rate of the fluid.

These meters operate on the principle of kinetic energy. As the fluid flows through the turbine, it strikes the blades of the rotor, causing it to spin. The rotor is typically mounted on a low-friction bearing. A sensing device, often a magnetic pickup or a photoelectric sensor, is positioned near the rotor to detect the rotation. Each time a rotor blade passes the sensor, an electrical pulse is generated. The frequency of these pulses is directly related to the speed of rotation and, therefore, to the fluid flow rate.

Turbinsmåler are known for their accuracy and wide dynamic range, meaning they can measure flow rates over a broad spectrum, from very low to very high. They are commonly used in various industrial applications, including oil and gas, water treatment, chemical processing, and power generation. Their relatively simple design also makes them robust and cost-effective for many measurement tasks. Calibration is crucial for ensuring the accuracy of any turbinsmåler. Different designs exist, varying in rotor type, blade angle, and sensing technology, to suit specific fluid properties and operating conditions.
