Tunnelväxthus

Tunnelväxthus, often translated as "tunnel greenhouse" or "polytunnel," is a type of simple greenhouse structure. It typically consists of a curved framework, usually made of galvanized steel tubing, covered with a durable plastic film, most commonly polyethylene. This framework forms a tunnel-like shape, hence the name.

The primary purpose of a tunnelväxthus is to provide a controlled environment for growing plants. The plastic covering allows sunlight to penetrate, warming the interior and protecting plants from adverse weather conditions such as wind, rain, hail, and frost. This extended growing season allows for earlier planting and later harvesting of crops.

Tunnelväxthus are popular among home gardeners, small-scale farmers, and commercial horticultural operations due to their relatively low cost and ease of assembly compared to traditional glass greenhouses. They are versatile and can be used for a wide range of horticultural activities, including growing vegetables, fruits, flowers, and for starting seedlings. Ventilation is crucial in tunnelväxthus, and this is often achieved through roll-up sides or end-wall doors to regulate temperature and humidity and prevent disease.
