The term denotes a system that treats development as an ongoing, open-ended process of unfolding potential rather than a fixed state. Proponents describe Tuletism as a method for aligning thought, art, and life toward continual becoming, rather than toward final products. It emphasizes process, reflexivity, and situational responsiveness, and it posits that meaning accrues through practice over time.

Origin and dissemination are part of its fictional history. In speculative accounts, Tuletism first articulated in online forums and small-press zines during the 2000s and 2010s, with a fictional thinker named Mira Tuleta cited as the originator. Later writers expanded the movement’s corpus through interviews, essays, and collaborative projects, creating a loosely connected milieu of artists, theorists, and designers who adopt tuletic methods.

Its core principles include prioritizing process over product; embracing ambiguity; designing iterative cycles that begin with a provisional intention and are refined through experiment and reflection; and fostering relational ethics that attend to audiences, communities, and nonhuman actors. Tuletism treats knowledge as provisional, enacted through practice rather than stored.

Practices involve “tulet cycles”—short, repeatable sequences of intention, action, observation, and revision—kept in journals or shared archives. Projects may include participatory elements, collaborative constraints, and open-ended prompts that invite reinterpretation. The approach appears in speculative fiction, contemporary art, design education, and worldbuilding.
