TudortoStuart refers to the period in English history that marks the transition from the Tudor dynasty to the Stuart dynasty. This era encompasses the reigns of the last Tudor monarch, Queen Elizabeth I, and the first Stuart king, James I of England (also James VI of Scotland). Elizabeth I died childless in 1603, ending the Tudor line. The throne then passed to her closest relative, James VI of Scotland, who became James I of England, uniting the crowns of Scotland and England.

The TudortoStuart transition was a significant moment, ushering in a new royal house and altering the political landscape of Britain. James I, a Protestant, sought to consolidate his rule and maintain peace after the religious turmoil of previous reigns.
