Tubulusepithelzellen, also known as tubular epithelial cells, are specialized cells that form the lining of the renal tubules in the kidneys. These tubules are crucial components of the nephron, the functional unit of the kidney responsible for filtering blood and producing urine. Tubulusepithelzellen play a vital role in reabsorbing essential substances from the filtrate back into the bloodstream and secreting waste products and excess ions into the filtrate to be excreted from the body.

For instance, cells in the proximal convoluted tubule are characterized by abundant microvilli, which greatly increase their surface area for efficient reabsorption of water, glucose, amino acids, and ions. In contrast, cells in the loop of Henle have different permeabilities to water and solutes, contributing to the kidney's ability to concentrate urine. Cells in the distal convoluted tubule and collecting ducts are involved in fine-tuning electrolyte and water balance, often under hormonal regulation.
