Tsaratanana

Tsaratanana is a region located in the northern part of Madagascar. It is characterized by a rugged and mountainous terrain, forming part of the Tsaratanana Massif. This massif is home to Maromokotro, the highest peak in Madagascar, reaching an elevation of 2,876 meters (9,436 feet). The climate in Tsaratanana varies with altitude, generally being cooler and wetter in the highlands.

The area is known for its rich biodiversity, with a significant portion of the Tsaratanana Massif designated as a protected area, the Tsaratanana National Park. This park harbors a variety of endemic flora and fauna, including several species of lemurs, reptiles, and birds. The forests in Tsaratanana play a crucial role in the regional ecosystem and water cycles.

The population of Tsaratanana is primarily composed of Malagasy ethnic groups, who often subsist on agriculture and animal husbandry.
