Trümmerströmen, often translated as debris flows or avalanche debris flows, are a type of gravity-driven mass wasting event characterized by a rapid, liquefied flow of fragmented rock and soil. These phenomena occur when loose debris, such as that produced by rockfalls, landslides, or volcanic eruptions, becomes saturated with water. The increased water content reduces the friction between the particles, allowing the debris to behave like a fluid and flow downhill at high speeds.
