Trükiplaadidel, also known as printed circuit boards (PCBs), are the backbone of modern electronics. They provide a mechanical and electrical connection for electronic components using conductive pathways, pads, and other features etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate. The substrate material is typically a composite material like fiberglass-epoxy, while the conductive layers are usually copper.

The primary function of a PCB is to hold and connect electronic components in a device. Instead of a spiderweb of wires, components are soldered onto designated pads on the PCB, and the conductive traces on the board route electrical signals between them. Multi-layer boards are essential for high-density electronics like smartphones and computers, allowing for intricate routing of signals and power. The manufacturing process involves photolithography, etching, drilling, and plating to create the precise patterns required.

The development of the PCB has been a crucial factor in the miniaturization and advancement of electronic devices. It has enabled the creation of everything from simple calculators to sophisticated medical equipment and powerful supercomputers. The continued innovation in PCB technology, such as flexible PCBs and rigid-flex PCBs, further expands the possibilities in electronic design.
