Trypomastigotes are a morphologic stage of certain kinetoplastid parasites, most commonly Trypanosoma species. They are flagellated, elongated cells with a single flagellum and an undulating membrane. A defining feature is a kinetoplast, a compact mass of mitochondrial DNA, located near the posterior end of the cell, with the nucleus positioned more anteriorly.
