Trivium
Trivium is the term used for the three core liberal arts of grammar, logic, and rhetoric that formed the foundation of classical and medieval education. The name is Latin, trivium, from tri- meaning three and via meaning way, reflecting the idea of three disciplines used to train the mind and language before pursuing higher studies. Each component had a distinct purpose: grammar taught the correct use of language, literacy, and interpretation of texts; logic, or dialectic, instructed reasoning, argument construction, and the method of inquiry; rhetoric focused on the art of persuasive speech and writing, ethical appeal to audiences, and effective communication.
