Trispecific

Trispecific refers to an antibody-like molecular entity that targets three distinct epitopes or antigens. In contrast to bispecific antibodies, which bind to two distinct epitopes, trispecific antibodies can interact with three different epitopes simultaneously. This characteristic is often exploited in therapeutic and diagnostic applications.

In the context of antibody engineering, trispecific antibodies are typically produced through protein engineering techniques such as DNA shuffling, yeast display, or phage display. These methods allow for the screening of large protein libraries to identify candidates with the desired trispecific binding properties.

Trispecific antibodies have been investigated for their potential therapeutic applications in cancer treatment. By targeting three different epitopes, trispecific antibodies may be able to engage multiple immune effectors or overcome mechanisms of tumor evasion. For example, trispecific antibodies may bind to three different cancer cell surface antigens, simultaneously triggering immune responses against the cancer cells.
