Trinitrons

The Trinitron is a proprietary CRT display technology developed and manufactured by Sony. Introduced in 1968, it was a significant advancement over traditional shadow mask CRTs. The key innovation of the Trinitron was its use of a single, large electron gun that fired three electron beams. Instead of a shadow mask with small holes, Trinitron employed a fine metal grille with vertical slots, known as an aperture grille.

This aperture grille allowed for greater precision in directing the electron beams to the correct phosphor dots on the screen, resulting in sharper images, brighter colors, and better color purity. The design also eliminated the moiré patterns that could sometimes occur with shadow masks. Trinitron technology was used in a wide range of Sony products, including televisions, computer monitors, and professional video displays, gaining a reputation for high quality and performance. While CRT technology has largely been superseded by flat-panel displays, the Trinitron is remembered as a notable achievement in display engineering.
