Treppenelementen

Treppenelementen, or stair elements, refer to the individual components that make up a staircase. These elements can be categorized into several key parts, each with a distinct function. The most fundamental elements are the treads and risers. Treads are the horizontal surfaces that people step on when ascending or descending a staircase. Risers are the vertical surfaces that connect one tread to the next, forming the height of each step. Together, treads and risers create the stepping function of the stairs.

Another crucial element is the stringer, which is the structural support that runs along the side of the staircase, holding the treads and risers in place. There are typically two stringers, one on each side, but sometimes a central stringer is used for support. The newel post is a substantial vertical post that anchors the ends of handrails and balustrades, providing stability and support at the beginning and end of a staircase or at landings.

The handrail is the railing that runs along the top of the balustrade, offering a handhold for safety and balance. The balustrade itself consists of the balusters (also known as spindles) which are vertical posts that support the handrail and prevent people from falling through the gaps. Finally, landings are flat, horizontal platforms that provide a resting point or a transition between flights of stairs, or at the top and bottom of a staircase. These various treppenelementen work in conjunction to create a functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing staircase.
