Trendem

Trendem is a term used in data analysis to describe a methodological approach for modeling and forecasting time-series data by explicitly capturing both long-run trends and shorter-scale dynamics within a unified framework. It emphasizes combining trend estimates from multiple resolutions to form a composite trend that informs predictions, while separating it from cyclical and irregular components.

The word Trendem appears to be a portmanteau of trend and ensemble (or dynamics). It is not a formally standardized term and tends to appear in informal discussions and certain forecasting discussions rather than as a defined discipline. As such, its exact meaning can vary between sources and applications.

Methodologically, Trendem involves generating several trend estimates across different smoothing levels or timescales and then weighting them adaptively to create a single, robust trend component.
