Transmissões

Transmissões is a term originating from Portuguese that translates to "transmissions" in English. In a mechanical context, it refers to the system of gears and associated components that transmit power from an engine or motor to a driven mechanism. This system allows for the variation of speed and torque, enabling the output device to operate efficiently under different conditions.

The most common type of transmission found in vehicles is the gearbox. Gearboxes can be broadly categorized into manual transmissions, where the driver selects gears using a clutch and gear lever, and automatic transmissions, which perform gear changes automatically based on vehicle speed and engine load. Other forms of transmissions exist, including continuously variable transmissions (CVTs), which offer an infinite range of gear ratios, and dual-clutch transmissions (DCTs), which combine elements of both manual and automatic systems for rapid gear changes.

Beyond automotive applications, transmissions are integral to a wide array of machinery. They are found in industrial equipment, agricultural machinery, and even in simple devices like bicycles, where they allow riders to adjust their pedaling effort relative to the terrain. The design and efficiency of a transmission system are crucial factors in the overall performance and energy consumption of any powered device.
