Transkriptsioonikompleksid, also known as transcription complexes, are molecular machines responsible for the process of transcription in eukaryotic cells. These complexes are involved in the synthesis of RNA from a DNA template. The transcription process begins with the recruitment of the transcription complex to the promoter region of a gene. The promoter is a specific DNA sequence that serves as the starting point for transcription. Once the complex is assembled, RNA polymerase II initiates the synthesis of a pre-mRNA molecule by unwinding the DNA double helix and adding ribonucleotides complementary to the DNA template strand.

Transcription complexes play a crucial role in gene regulation by controlling the initiation, elongation, and termination of transcription. They interact with various regulatory proteins and DNA elements to fine-tune gene expression in response to cellular signals and environmental cues. Additionally, transcription complexes are involved in the processing of pre-mRNA, including the addition of a 5' cap and a 3' poly(A) tail, as well as the splicing of introns to generate mature mRNA.
