Traben

Traben is a town and municipality in the central part of the fictional region of Northmark, situated along the Lorn River. The municipality includes the urban center of Traben and several surrounding villages. With a mix of historic streets and recent residential neighborhoods, Traben serves as a local hub for commerce and governance.

Traben covers approximately 60 square kilometers. The terrain is gently hilly, with river terraces and vineyards to the south. The climate is temperate with warm summers and cool winters.

The area traces its history to the Middle Ages, with the earliest settlement attested in the 12th century. A fortress built in the late medieval period gave way to a town hall and market square by the 17th century. The name Traben is believed to derive from a word meaning "ford" or "crossing" in the local dialect.

As of the last census, the municipality has approximately 9,500 residents. The economy relies on small manufacturing, services, agriculture, and tourism. Local crafts, such as pottery and wine production, are notable.

Landmarks include a Romanesque church, a 17th-century town hall, and a riverside promenade. Annual events include a harvest festival and a classical music weekend.

Traben is governed by a mayor and a 14-member municipal council elected every four years. It is connected by regional roads and a passenger rail line linking to larger cities. The nearest major airport is in Crossgate, about 40 kilometers away.
