Tplasmids are a class of naturally occurring plasmids found in Agrobacterium tumefaciens, a soil bacterium. These plasmids are instrumental in the process of plant genetic transformation. The key feature of Tplasmids is their ability to transfer a specific segment of DNA, known as the T-DNA, from the bacterium to the host plant's genome. This transfer is mediated by a complex molecular machinery encoded by genes located on a separate region of the plasmid called the virulence (vir) genes.
