Totaletterspørsel, often abbreviated as AD, represents the total demand for goods and services in an economy at various price levels during a specific period. It is a macroeconomic concept that aggregates the demand from all sectors of the economy, including households (consumption), businesses (investment), government (government spending), and foreign entities (net exports).

The totaletterspørsel curve illustrates the relationship between the overall price level and the quantity of real output demanded. Typically, this curve slopes downward, indicating an inverse relationship: as the price level rises, the aggregate quantity of goods and services demanded falls, and vice versa. This downward slope is attributed to several factors, including the wealth effect, the interest rate effect, and the exchange rate effect. The wealth effect suggests that as prices rise, the real value of wealth decreases, leading to lower consumption. The interest rate effect posits that higher prices lead to increased demand for money, pushing up interest rates and reducing investment. The exchange rate effect indicates that a higher price level can lead to a depreciation of the domestic currency, making exports more expensive and imports cheaper, thus reducing net exports.
