The Toronto-Dominion Bank, commonly known as TD Bank or simply TD, is a Canadian multinational financial services company and one of the largest banks in Canada. It is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, and operates through a network of branches and digital platforms to serve retail, commercial, and institutional clients.

TD was formed in 1955 through the merger of the Bank of Toronto and The Dominion Bank, both of which trace their histories to the 19th century. The merged institution adopted the Toronto-Dominion name and expanded its Canadian retail network as well as its international reach over time. In Canada, its consumer banking arm is commonly referred to as TD Canada Trust, while other product lines include TD Bank, Wealth, and Insurance services.

The bank’s United States subsidiary, TD Bank, N.A., provides retail and commercial banking across the eastern United States. TD expanded into the U.S. market through a series of acquisitions that broadened its branch network and product offerings, helping establish its cross-border financial services platform. The company also operates TD Securities for investment banking and capital markets activities, and TD Wealth for wealth management and advisory services.

TD is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange and is considered part of Canada’s Big Five banks, alongside Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank, Bank of Montreal, and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. The firm emphasizes digital banking, payments, and sustainable finance as part of its strategic priorities, while maintaining a diversified global footprint beyond its core Canadian and U.S. markets.
