Tootmiskavade

Tootmiskavade (Estonian for production plans) refer to formal documents or sets of documents used in manufacturing to outline planned production activities over a specific horizon. They translate demand signals, sales forecasts, and customer orders into a structured schedule that coordinates procurement, capacity, and shop-floor work. In practice, tootmiskavade exist at various levels, from aggregate production plans spanning months to detailed master production schedules covering days or weeks.

Typical contents include: product mix and quantities, routing and work-center assignments, bill of materials, required material and capacity, lead times, production calendar, sequencing, inventory targets, and constraints or risk factors. They may specify quality controls, maintenance windows, and procurement requirements for components. The output is usually production orders, material orders, and capacity adjustments, aligned to available resources.

Development and use: Created using demand forecasts, purchase orders, inventory data, and resource availability. Integrated in ERP or manufacturing execution systems; reviewed regularly and updated to reflect changes in demand, supplier delays, or equipment downtime. The tootmiskava helps operations balance supply and demand, minimize stockouts and overproduction, and support performance measurement through KPIs such as adherence to schedule and capacity utilization. It is distinct from individual production orders, which are concrete instructions for manufacturing on a given day.
