Tonvärde

Tonvärde is a concept used in visual arts and photography to describe the lightness or darkness of a particular tone or color. It is a relative measure, meaning a tone's value is determined by its comparison to other tones within an image or composition. Pure white represents the lightest possible tonvärde, while pure black represents the darkest. All shades of gray and colors fall somewhere in between these two extremes.

Understanding tonvärde is crucial for creating visual interest and depth. High contrast images, with a wide range of tonvärde, tend to appear dramatic and bold. Conversely, images with a narrow range of tonvärde, where tones are very similar, can appear softer, more subtle, or even monotonous.
