Tonkinensis

Tonkinensis is a Latin toponymic epithet used in the scientific names of many organisms to indicate that the species was described from, or is associated with, Tonkin, the historical region in northern Vietnam. In binomial nomenclature, tonkinensis functions as an adjective that must agree in gender with the genus name. The usual masculine and feminine form is tonkinensis, while neuter genera typically take tonkinense. In practice, some authors apply tonkinensis regardless of genus gender, so consulting the original description is advisable.

The epithet derives from Tonkin (Đông Bắc Việt Nam). The term reflects geographic origin rather than morphological or behavioral traits.
