Toksiikologia

Toksiikologia is the scientific study of the adverse effects of chemical, physical, or biological agents on living organisms. It investigates the nature of these toxic agents, their mechanisms of action, the resulting biological responses, and the methods for preventing or counteracting their harmful effects. This interdisciplinary field draws upon knowledge from chemistry, biology, pharmacology, medicine, and environmental science.

The core focus of toxicology is understanding dose-response relationships, which establish that the severity of a toxic effect is directly related to the amount of exposure. It also examines routes of exposure, such as ingestion, inhalation, or dermal contact, and how these influence toxicity. Toxicologists study the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of substances within an organism to understand how they interact with biological systems.
