Tojinbo

Tojinbo is a scenic series of cliffs located on the Sea of Japan coast in the town of Mikuni, Echizen, Fukui Prefecture, Japan. The cliffs are composed of columnar jointing basalt, formed by volcanic activity approximately 14 million years ago. This geological feature creates dramatic, vertical rock formations that plunge into the sea.

The name "Tojinbo" is said to originate from a wicked Buddhist priest named Dojinbo who was thrown off the cliffs by his rivals. Today, Tojinbo is a popular tourist destination, renowned for its breathtaking views, particularly at sunset. Visitors can explore the area via walking paths and enjoy boat tours that offer a unique perspective of the rugged coastline.
