Toimintahäviöt

Toimintahäviöt, also known as functional limitations or disability, refers to a condition where an individual experiences difficulties in performing everyday activities or tasks due to a health problem, impairment, or injury. These limitations can affect a person's physical, cognitive, sensory, or psychological functioning, impacting their ability to participate fully in social, economic, and personal life. The concept is often assessed within the framework of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), which distinguishes between body functions and structures, activities, and participation.

Activities describe the execution of a task or action by an individual, while participation refers to involvement in a life situation. Toimintahäviöt can arise from a wide range of conditions, including chronic diseases, mental health disorders, injuries, and developmental conditions. The severity and nature of these limitations vary greatly among individuals. Addressing toimintahäviöt often involves a multi-faceted approach, including medical interventions, rehabilitation services, assistive devices, environmental modifications, and social support systems, all aimed at maximizing an individual's capacity and promoting their inclusion in society.
