Tmverschillen, also known as time differences, refer to the disparities in time between different regions or time zones. These differences are primarily due to the Earth's rotation and its division into 24 time zones, each approximately 15 degrees of longitude wide. The time in each zone is based on the local solar time at the central meridian of that zone, with the Prime Meridian (0 degrees longitude) in Greenwich, England, serving as the reference point for Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

Time differences can be expressed in hours, with each time zone typically differing by one hour from its adjacent zones. However, some regions may have half-hour or quarter-hour differences due to political or practical considerations. For example, Newfoundland, Canada, is three and a half hours behind UTC, while Nepal is 5 hours and 45 minutes ahead.

The concept of time zones was introduced to standardize timekeeping and facilitate global communication. Before the adoption of time zones, each city or region had its own local time, leading to confusion and inefficiency. The International Date Line, an imaginary line in the Pacific Ocean, is where the date changes as it is crossed. This line generally follows the 180 degrees meridian but deviates to avoid political boundaries and islands.

Time differences can also be affected by daylight saving time (DST), a practice of advancing clocks during warmer months to make better use of daylight. DST can add or subtract an hour from the standard time, further complicating timekeeping across different regions. Despite these complexities, time differences remain a fundamental aspect of global timekeeping and coordination.
