Tineaversicolorväriero

Tineaversicolorväriero, often referred to as pityriasis versicolor, is a common superficial fungal infection of the skin caused by Malassezia yeast, which is normally found on the skin. This condition is characterized by changes in skin pigmentation, resulting in discolored patches. The affected areas may appear lighter or darker than the surrounding skin, and can range in color from pink, reddish-brown, to tan. These patches are typically found on the trunk, neck, and upper arms.

The exact cause for tineaversicolorväriero developing is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to an overgrowth of Malassezia yeast under certain conditions. Factors that can contribute to this overgrowth include warm and humid weather, excessive sweating, oily skin, and a weakened immune system. It is not considered contagious.

Diagnosis is usually made based on the characteristic appearance of the skin lesions. A doctor may scrape the affected skin and examine it under a microscope or use a Wood's lamp, which can cause the infected areas to fluoresce. Treatment typically involves topical antifungal medications, such as creams, lotions, or shampoos containing ingredients like selenium sulfide or ketoconazole. In more widespread or persistent cases, oral antifungal medications may be prescribed. Recurrence is common, and individuals may need to undergo periodic treatment to manage the condition.
