Tineaversicolor
Tinea versicolor is a common fungal infection of the skin. It is caused by a type of yeast that is normally found on the skin, called Malassezia. This yeast can overgrow and cause discolored patches on the skin, typically on the trunk and shoulders. The patches can be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin, and may be slightly scaly or itchy. Tinea versicolor is more common in warm, humid climates and in young adults. It is not contagious and does not cause serious health problems. Diagnosis is usually made by a doctor based on the appearance of the rash. Treatment typically involves topical antifungal medications, such as shampoos, creams, or lotions. In more severe cases, oral antifungal medications may be prescribed. The rash usually resolves with treatment, but the discoloration may take several months to fade completely. The condition can sometimes recur, especially in individuals prone to overgrowth of the yeast.
