Tiivistemäiset

Tiivistemäiset, also known as "twigosomes," are a type of multivesicular body (MVB) found in plant cells. They play a crucial role in the early events of autophagy, a cellular process that involves the degradation and recycling of cellular components. The name "tiivistemäiset" is Finnish for "twig-like," referring to the morphological appearance of these organelles.

Tiivistemäiset are characterized by their lumen, which is a vesicle within the MVB. They contain various proteins and lipids that are involved in the autophagic pathway. These inclusion bodies are thought to emerge from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and fuse with the lysosome, contributing to the sorting and degradation of autophagic substrates.
