Tieriäs

Tieriäs is a fictional municipality created for illustrative purposes in this article. Located in the northern region of Northlandia, Tieriäs covers about 190 square kilometers and sits on the shores of Lake Tieriäs, surrounded by boreal forests and rolling hills.

The name Tieriäs is derived from the old Tieri river and a medieval parish name. The term appears in later medieval records and was formalized as the municipality's name during the 19th century reforms.

Settlement in Tieriäs dates back to the 13th century, with growth tied to forestry, fishing, and river trade. A railway line opened in the late 1800s spurred development. The municipality acquired self-government in 1865 and joined regional reforms in 1977.

Tieriäs is administered by a municipal council of 17 members elected every four years. The council selects a mayor. It is part of the Nordlandia region and participates in intermunicipal cooperation on infrastructure, education, and cultural programs.

As of the latest estimates, Tieriäs has around 7,800 residents. The population is predominantly Northian, with communities of immigrant workers. The economy relies on forestry, small manufacturing, and tourism centered on the lake and surrounding forests.

Local culture emphasizes outdoor recreation and the Tieriäs Lake Festival held each summer. The town has a primary school, a secondary school, and a regional library. Transport connections include a regional road network and a railway stop on the Northrail line.
