Thåström

Thåström, born Joakim Thåström, is a Swedish singer and musician who rose to prominence in the late 1970s as the frontman of the punk band Ebba Grön. The band became a defining act in Swedish punk with an urgent, aggressive sound and politically charged lyrics.

After Ebba Grön dissolved, Thåström formed Imperiet, a major Swedish rock act in the 1980s. Imperiet was known for its expansive musical range and socially aware songs, contributing to a broader and more mature Swedish rock scene during that era.

From the 1990s onward, Thåström pursued a solo career that blends punk, rock, and more melodic or experimental material. His work is marked by a distinctive low rasp, intense delivery, and a focus on atmosphere and mood as much as on hooky songwriting.

Lyrically, his material addresses urban life, alienation, political critique, and personal struggle. He is regarded as one of Sweden's most influential figures in contemporary rock, with a reputation for uncompromising artistic integrity and a strong live presence.
