Thirukalyanam

Thirukalyanam is a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony that signifies the sacred union of a bride and groom. The term "Thirukalyanam" derives from Tamil language, where "Thiru" denotes auspiciousness or sacredness, and "Kalyanam" means marriage or wedding. This ritual is an integral part of Hindu婚礼 and is conducted with elaborate customs and religious significance.

The ceremony typically involves the exchange of vows, offerings to deities, and various rites performed under the guidance of priests. It often begins with pre-wedding rituals such as the consultation of auspicious timings (muhurtham), the matchmaking process, and the preparation of the wedding venue. The main event includes the sacred fire (Agni), which acts as a witness to the vows made by the couple. The groom and bride participate in rituals like the Saptapadi (seven steps around the sacred fire), symbolizing their commitment to each other and their spiritual journey together.

In South Indian traditions, Thirukalyanam is characterized by specific customs such as applying turmeric paste, tying the mangalasutras (sacred necklace), and performing music and dance as part of the celebration. The ceremony concludes with the "Kanyadan," where the bride's family officially offers the bride to the groom.
