Thassilons

Thassilon was an ancient human empire that once dominated much of modern-day Avistan. It was known for its immense power, its tyrannical rulers, and its ambitious arcane experimentation. The empire was founded by the archmage Xin and lasted for thousands of years before ultimately collapsing due to internal strife and the hubris of its leaders.

The empire was divided into seven distinct realms, each ruled by a Runelord. These Runelords wielded incredible magical power and each specialized in a different school of magic, such as the Runelord of Greed, the Runelord of Wrath, or the Runelord of Pride. They ruled their domains with an iron fist, often enslaving populations and exploiting magical resources for their own gain. Thassilonian society was highly stratified, with the ruling elite enjoying immense privilege while the common populace lived in hardship.

The downfall of Thassilon is attributed to a number of factors, including constant conflict between the Runelords, their increasingly dangerous magical endeavors, and a catastrophic event known as the "Great Betrayal." This event, shrouded in mystery, led to the empire's fragmentation and the scattering of its people. While the empire itself ceased to exist, its legacy of powerful magic, dangerous artifacts, and ancient ruins continues to influence the lands it once controlled. Remnants of Thassilonian civilization can still be found in forgotten dungeons, ancient texts, and the enduring fear of the returning Runelords.
