Teylingen

Teylingen is a former municipality located in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. It existed from 1984 to 2015 and was part of the Haarlemmermeer region. The municipality was established on June 1, 1984, by merging the cities of Warmond, The Teylingen, and Vijfhuizen, as well as the villages of Binnenhuizen, Kaltwijk, and De Kooigewand.

On June 1, 2015, Teylingen merged with the municipalities of Lisse and Noordwijk to form the new municipality of Teylingen. The new municipality is located in the Westland district of South Holland and has a total area of 108.81 square kilometers and a population of approximately 42,000 people.

The name Teylingen is derived from the Dutch language and means 'land of the hamlet of the Tein'. The municipality had a variety of landscapes, including forests, heath, and wetlands. It surrounded the Groene Hart region, part of the larger 'Green Heart' of the Randstad, a megalopolis of landlocked cities.

During its existence, Teylingen developed into a popular residential area, with many new homes being built in the area. The municipality also became a significant commercial center, with the establishment of the Iepenhallen trade and logistics park and a range of office buildings.

Teylingen's economy was also driven by agriculture and horticulture, with the locality being known for its greenhouse industry. The main economic sectors of the municipality included horticulture, agriculture, trade, and services.

Since its dissolution, the former municipality of Teylingen has continued to feature in various contexts, including transportation planning, heritage preservation, and local community development. The municipality has left behind a legacy of green spaces, along with an important functional and social role within the local region.
