TextViews

TextView is a fundamental UI element in Android development used to display plain text to the user. It is a subclass of View and is commonly found in layouts to present labels, descriptions, or any static text content. TextViews can be customized in various ways to control their appearance and behavior.

Key attributes of TextView allow for modification of text content, size, color, and style. Text size can be set using density-independent pixels (sp) for proper scaling across different screen densities. Text color can be defined using color resources. Text style can be changed to bold, italic, or underlined. TextViews also support basic text manipulation like setting gravity for alignment (left, right, center, top, bottom) and controlling line spacing.

Beyond simple text display, TextViews can handle more complex scenarios. They support hyperlinks, allowing users to click on text to navigate to URLs. Ellipsize functionality can be enabled to truncate long text with an ellipsis (...). The maxLines attribute limits the number of lines displayed, and singleLine can force the text onto a single line, often combined with ellipsize.
