Tetusti

Tetusti is a small, uninhabited island located in the Gulf of Finland, part of the Baltic Sea. Situated approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) off the coast of Estonia, it belongs to the municipality of Saaremaa in the county of Saare. The island covers an area of around 0.1 square kilometers (25 acres) and is notable for its rugged, rocky terrain and limited vegetation.

Historically, Tetusti has been used primarily for agricultural purposes, particularly as a grazing area for livestock. Its name derives from the Estonian word *tetud* (meaning "to graze"), reflecting its traditional use. The island was also occasionally inhabited by seasonal workers or shepherds, though it has been uninhabited for decades.

Tetusti is accessible only by boat, as there are no roads or bridges connecting it to the mainland. Its isolation and lack of infrastructure make it a remote and serene location, often visited by nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and those seeking solitude. The island is part of the larger archipelago surrounding Saaremaa, which includes other notable islands such as Suurlahe and Suur-Pakri.

Due to its small size and limited resources, Tetusti has no permanent facilities, though it may occasionally be used for research or recreational activities. The Estonian government and local authorities have not designated it as a protected area, but its natural state remains largely undisturbed. The island’s accessibility and lack of development contribute to its appeal as a quiet, off-the-grid destination.
