Testesíteni

Testesíteni is a Hungarian verb that appears in some technical or formal texts with the sense “to subject to testing” or “to cause to undergo testing.” It is formed from the loanword teszt (test) plus a causative suffix, yielding a meaning akin to “to make something undergo a test.”

However, testesíteni is not widely established in standard Hungarian. The dominant verb for this idea is tesztelni (to test), and the related noun is tesztelés (testing). When testesíteni is encountered, it is usually in specialized or bureaucratic prose, or as a neologism or calque from English. In everyday language, speakers would generally prefer tesztelni.

Etymology and usage notes: the word is generally analyzed as teszt + -esíteni, a derivational pattern that can produce causative or intensifying forms. In some contexts, testesíteni may lead to ambiguity with other forms rooted in megtestesíteni, which means “to incarnate” or “to embody.” For clear communication in standard Hungarian, tesztelni is the recommended term for the act of performing tests.
