Teríamos

Teríamos is the first-person plural form of ter in the Portuguese conditional present mood. It is used to express hypothetical or contingent actions in the present or future, and it can also form the conditional perfect when paired with a past participle to denote actions that would have occurred under different conditions.

Morphology and usage notes: ter is an irregular verb, and teríamos is formed with the stem ter- combined with the conditional endings -íamos. The full set for the indicative conditional present is teria, terias, teria, teríamos, teríeis, teriam. In addition to signaling simple hypothetical statements (Nós teríamos tempo amanhã), teríamos can introduce or be part of a clause describing what would be required or expected (Nós teríamos de sair mais cedo). When used with a past participle, it yields the conditional perfect (futuro do pretérito composto), meaning actions that would have happened in the past (Nós teríamos ido se soubéssemos).

Examples:

- Nós teríamos tempo para conversar. (We would have time to talk.)

- Se tivéssemos terminado mais cedo, teríamos ido ao cinema. (If we had finished earlier, we would have gone to the cinema.)

- Eles teriam que aceitar a proposta. (They would have to accept the proposal.)

- Ela disse que teríamos de falar com o gerente amanhã. (She said we would have to talk to the manager tomorrow.)

Usage contextos: teríamos é comum em fala e escrita para expressar condições, probabilidades ou obrigações condicionais. Em português europeu e brasileiro, o emprego é similar, com variações preferenciais entre teríamos de e teríamos que para a ideia de “we would have to.”
